Odds are good that you’ll interact with a touch screen at some point during the day. They’re everywhere: at work, in the home, at retail shops and restaurants. The technology has become as common as plumbing.

And those touch screens are getting bigger.

Large touch screens are being deployed in more meeting rooms. They’re turning up at eateries. They’re becoming more common as control and content options in residential spaces. And as with any technology that presents a visual interface to the user, they’ve got to be intuitive, offer real-time interaction with near-zero latency, and have the ability to mirror the branding or aesthetics that a customer demands.

As they’ve grown larger, other challenges have also emerged: the graphics engines that drive these screens may have relied on obsolete UI-building programs and been unable to support third-party apps.

Crestron has a new solution that meets this moment and answers those issues: the Digital Graphics Engine 1000 (DGE‑1000).

The DGE-1000

The Crestron DGE‑1000 instantly transforms an HD touch screen display into an advanced Crestron controller. It features CH5 and Crestron Construct™ software that may be used to create a custom graphical environment for controlling audio, video, lighting, shades, HVAC, security, and other amenities. The DGE‑1000 also features functions such as dual-window video display, audio feedback, and web browsing. Its low‑profile, surface‑mountable design allows for a discreet installation behind a flat‑panel display, under a table, or inside a lectern or equipment rack.

The DGE‑1000 features an HDMI® output for connecting to a display device and includes a USB port for touch, mouse, or keyboard input. Additional ports are provided to control the display device and other equipment. The HDMI input allows for a high-definition video source to be previewed directly as part of the user interface.

Additionally, streaming video signals can be received over an Ethernet connection, which provides an interface to a Crestron control system. The DGE-1000 will also support the Crestron general web app, which allows a user to run a custom web application on the touch screen from a server.

The DGE‑1000 can be paired with Crestron’s large touch screen displays to deliver a high‑definition touch screen control panel that’s ideal for corporate, educational, and government applications. The DGE‑1000 is also compatible with third‑party touch screen displays to support a range of control, collaboration, video display, and interactive kiosk solutions — even on large formats.

Residential Deployments

All of the features that make the DGE-1000 perfect for commercial applications are also incredibly beneficial in residential installations. Simply put, it’s a powerful addition to any Crestron smart home.

The solution transforms any touch overlay display into a powerful Crestron Home® OS enabled touch screen, allowing control of an entire home with a simple tap on the largest of displays, whether that's a 22" display in the kitchen or a larger interactive display in the living room. The DGE-1000 seamlessly integrates with the Crestron Home® app so that in addition to control, the user can preview video feeds or enjoy full-screen video playback with the push of a button using Crestron touch screens or third-party displays.

Its high-performance graphics engine ensures a smooth, responsive user experience for streaming high-definition video. Enterprise-grade security provides peace of mind by protecting the home network and data from unauthorized access. Versatile video support lets your clients enjoy full-screen video playback, with support for HDMI resolutions up to 1080p and H.264 streaming up to 4K30 — perfect for watching YouTube® cooking videos in the kitchen, for example. It’s yet another tool that helps provide “entertainment everywhere.”
