Copehill Down Village needed to run like a true simulation reacting to live events such as triggering alarms, creating smoke effects, and lighting and audio changes that would replicate a living community. A Crestron control system balances logic handling and event triggers while running automation scripts and maintaining user interface consistency. Every structure is networked back to the Crestron core, enabling instructors to treat the whole site as a connected environment. Crestron enabled the control logic required to make the site flexible, handling the routing, device management, DM NVX® AV-over-IP technology, DM NAX® Audio-over-IP technology, and lighting controls.

Instructors can use the Crestron system to control the whole site or any combination of zones from their tablets. They can trigger real-time events or automate Pattern of Life to simulate a functioning community during exercises. The Pattern of Life scenario is an automation mode that allows the village to behave like a living community until a trigger event disrupts things, such as shop opening hours, school bells, and sirens at night. The system is commonly used to run full battle scenarios across the entire village at a battalion level, complete simultaneous exercises in five zones with independent outcomes, and create cause and effect training where actions in one building change conditions in another. For example, a “breach and clear” in one zone can automatically activate alarms, smoke effects, and CCTV in another location. All automated behaviors are controlled by the Crestron system, giving instructors full command of scenario conditions without delay.
